Position Overview
The Latinx Community Ambassador will play a vital role in fostering connections between our organization and the Latinx community, with a specific focus on building awareness and education about advance care planning (ACP). This individual will lead outreach efforts, ensure culturally relevant program delivery, and build trust to effectively address the unique needs of the Latinx population. As a key representative of our organization, the ambassador will act as a liaison, advocate, and resource to enhance engagement and strengthen relationships within the community.
This is a part-time position with an average of 4 hours per week and a minimum commitment of two years, starting in April. The position is paid on an hourly rate.
Key Responsibilities
- Advance Care Planning Initiatives:
- Organize ACP community engagement events.
- Train ACP Internal Champions at community-based organizations.
- Refine culturally tailored training materials to enhance relevance and impact.
- Community Outreach: Develop and implement outreach strategies to connect with Latinx individuals, families, and organizations.
- Culturally Relevant Engagement: Ensure that programs and services are designed and delivered in a way that respects and reflects the cultural values, traditions, and languages of the Latinx community.
- Relationship Building: Establish and maintain strong relationships with local community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders.
- Advocacy: Serve as a voice for the Latinx community, advocating for resources and support to address their specific needs.
- Communication: Provide bilingual (English/Spanish) communication support, including translating materials and interpreting when needed.
- Community Feedback: Gather and relay feedback from the Latinx community to inform and improve organizational initiatives.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the San Francisco Palliative Care Work Group and partners closely with our collaborators at UCSF Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience working with and within the Latinx community.
- Strong understanding of Latinx culture, traditions, and values.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, with excellent communication skills in both languages.
- Proven ability to build relationships and trust within diverse communities.
- Experience in community organizing, advocacy, or a related field.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with local Latinx community organizations and networks.
- Experience designing and implementing culturally relevant programs.
- Previous work in a non-profit, health care, or social services setting.
